More from Chapter 2, Time and Space

Zeetherious was not the only one watching the children. From high up in his office on Vanderia IV, in the farthest reaches of the Minution Planetary Cluster, Narcos Varanan listened to make sure that the transmission was complete. He could not contain his delight. Although there was no one else in his office, he chuckled out loud.

“So, Zeetherious, you went to Earth for help. I guess you really didn’t have much of a choice did you? Well, this should indeed be fun. Not only will I destroy you, and take back Zinitheron, I can also have some fun with three little Earth children. Yes, my friend, you must sleep now. Of course, you go right ahead and sleep. You’ll need your rest.”

THE EARTH CHILDREN

Kelly
Kelly was full of energy and confidence. Even though she was still twelve, and younger than Jonathan by several months, it was Kelly who was the ringleader for the threesome. She stood about four and a half feet tall, and was quite slender (not skinny, one should never call a girl skinny). She had long, straight, bright, blond hair, which she usually wore in a ponytail. Her intense hazel eyes offset her otherwise delicate features. She had a sprinkling of freckles across the bridge of her nose. Each freckle seemed to dance about her face when she smiled. She would never need a cup of coffee (or anything else with caffeine in it) her entire life. Kelly was always going a mile a minute.

JONATHAN

Jonathan had an unwavering faith. He was tall with a strong and athletic build. He moved through life with a slow and easy grace that often was mistaken for a lack of interest, yet his reflexes were so fast it seemed as if he could slow down the world around him. His easygoing manner made him seem much older than he was. His closely cropped, light-brown hair, confident brown eyes and tan complexion added to the effect. He did not say much. When he did speak, he wanted to make sure that what he said made sense. He thought a lot before he said anything. This trait drove Kelly nuts.

BENNY

Benny was very intelligent, and he had a unique flair about him. Benny was… well, Benny. He always looked like he had just gotten out of bed. His wavy, medium length, dark brown hair was always a mess. His shoes were always untied, and his shirt either half way tucked in or hanging out, depending on how you looked at it. Benny had a somewhat stocky build, although he was by no means fat. He wore horn-rimmed glasses, which seemed about two sizes too small for his face. Benny was by some accounts, an all out genius. His parents had had him tested before double promoting him from fourth to sixth grade. The rumor was that he had scored 168 on his IQ test. No one could verify that number, and Benny was too embarrassed to let on. He never told his best friends Jonathan and Kelly. While he was a very intelligent boy, he had been somewhat shortchanged in the common sense department.

THE EYE OF THE DREADED MINI-SI-CLOPS!

The creature stared back, sizing them up with one steely black eye. The three young adventurers froze, unable to turn away. They were captured by its icy, hypnotic stare. This devilish eye occupied most of the creatures face. It had no recognizable mouth or nose but in a strange way it almost appeared as if it was smiling. This was not a happy smile, rather it was a sinister looking, I have you right where I want you, smile. Its dark, leathery, snake-like body pulsated as if waiting to catch its breath before it coiled and struck.
